Contrary to some reports, Gove’s department reiterates their commitment to abolishing Section 21 notices, promising a six-month notice period and ensuring the county court system is prepared for the changes.
The Bill aims to revolutionise the rental sector by:
- Preventing blanket bans on renting to families with children or those on benefits.
- Enforcing the Decent Homes Standard for safe living conditions.
- Granting tenants the right to have pets.
- Strengthening grounds for possession in cases of rent arrears or property sale.
- Expedited eviction for tenants engaging in anti-social behavior.
- Facilitating quicker dispute resolution through a new Ombudsman.
